This has come up before, and if I remember correctly you need to work out the issue at the
overseas end – if your friends phone is able to send international SMS to China, it’ll work, if
not, it won’t. You’d need to speak to the mobile operator in Denmark.

My thoughts are the same. If you can’t receive them it’s due to the fact that he can’t send them.
Of course every now and again a message won’t make it through or it makes it 24 hours later (while
your friend is sleeping at 3am of course )

olsen1 -

Thanks for the reply
Infact I just recieved a message reply on phone yesterday so it must mean its okay at my end, but
as you say the problems is with the senders phone company ( though mesaages are shown on senders
phone as sent )

peterlkj -

I have this problem too, and it’s not just related to China. Sometimes my UK phone company (Three)
can’t send messages to Portugal, not to mention China. The reason is that the network operators
don’t have the necessary contracts in place (although phone calls go through). If you really need
to use SMS, either you or your friend might need to use a different network.

Hi everyone, I like this song and I believe many of you here do too, I like the poetic lyrics by
Fang Wen Shan and tune by Jay. Well-sung by Jay Chou and Fei Yuqing. Through songs, I believe that
learning Chinese is much more fun!

English translations by me, hopefully its isn’t too bad, I admit some parts look odd

Nonetheless, I hope you’ll appreciate my effort and enjoy!

(Thousand miles away) by Jay Chou and Fei Yuqing

wū yán rú xuán yá fēng líng rú cāng hǎi wǒ děng yàn guī lái
The roof is as though a cliff, the windchime as though the sea, I’m awaiting the return of the
swallow

shí jiān bèi ān pái,yǎn yī cháng yì wài,nǐ qiǎo rán zǒu kāi
Time is being planned to stage an accident, you left quietly

gù shi zài chéng wài,nóng wù sǎn bù kāi,kàn bù qīng duì bái
The story lies outside the city, the thick fog persists, I can’t see the conversation clearly

nǐ tīng bù chū lái,fēng shēng bù cún zài,shì wǒ zài gǎn kǎi
You can’t tell that the wind is no longer here, I’m the one in remorse

mèng xǐng lái shì shéi zài chuāng tái bǎ jié jú dǎ kāi
Awaking from a dream, who is at the window, opening the ending

nà báo rú chán yì de wèi lái jīng bú qǐ shéi lái chāi
As thin as the wings of a cicada, the future can easily be torn apart by anyone

wǒ sòng nǐ lí kāi qiān lǐ zhī wài nǐ wú shēng hēi bái
I send you off to a thousand miles away, you left with no words

chén mò nián dài huò xǔ bù gāi tài yáo yuǎn de xiāng ài
In this silent era, perhaps we shouldn’t have love too far apart

wó sòng nǐ lí kāi tiān yá zhī wài nǐ shì fǒu hái zài
I send you off to a thousand miles away, I wonder you’re still there

qīn shēng hé lái shēng sǐ nán cāi yòng yī shēng qù děng dài
Where the music comes, with life and death unpredictable I wait with a lifetime

wén lèi shēng rù lín xún lí huā bái zhǐ dé yī xíng qīng tái
Listening to the tears into the woods, searching for pear flowers Got nothing but a row of moss

tiān zài shān zhī wài yǔ luò huā tái wó liǎng bìn bān bái
The sky is beyond the mountains, rain upon the flowers, my sideburns speckled white

yī shēn liú lí bái tòu míng zháo chén ‘āi nǐ wú xiá de ài
Your body is crystal white, transparent with dust, your flawless love

nǐ cóng yǔ zhōng lái shī huà le bēi āi wǒ lín shī xiàn zài
You came from the rain, turning sorrows to verses, I’m drenched now

Lotus plucked upon the water surface, the movement of the boat remains, but you didn’t return

Shrouded by the years, the blossoms you mentioned, the past became blank

I like Fei Yuqing’s solo version better.

Their styles complement each other well in the duet.

Fei’s vocals and Mandarin pronunciation are clearer.

Not sure whether Qinghai’d work for mussels and fries, though

i think not, but pour 孜然粉, 辣椒粉, 五味粉 and salt over the fries. Tell them it’s from
Sichuan, they’ll like it. I ate similar fries in a sichuan restaurant. The baking method and the
way they cut potato is very Belgian. Bake them first until the surface goes a little bit brown,
put them into refrig for over an hour, and deep fry them when you need it. The only difference is
the spicies.

The most successful one I made is mini version of blooming onion, with 五味粉, 辣椒粉 and
salt. (no giant onion can be bought in my city). Frankly it’s not really tasty, but that’s enough
to amaze everyone, including some europeans who didn’t see it before.

The better way is to serve it in Russian way, offering different small courses just like a fine
dining restaurants. A bowl of mussels are supposed to be shared by many people, not just one. Also
use more vegetables to add color and extensively use beloved Sichuanese spicies (very chinese).

But not every of us knows how to cook, making dessert is an easier way to show off.
Among them Tiramisu is the greatest. Tiramisu seems to be getting famous in China, many only heard
its name, and some tried a fake one only (with cream cheese). If you’re in big city, you should be
able to find out Mascarpone cheese and Lady’s fingers to make a classic one.

I wouldn’t worry, I don’t think many Chinese know that it’s landlocked, or could find it on a map.
They just know it’s far. That’s good enough.

That ain’t that easy to make. Good luck with that!
